Lord Shani is the emperor ruling current era called Kaliyug . He is the son of a very hot, fiery, conservative and orthodox planet, the Sun. His mother is Chhaya , who is believed to be the shadow-image or reflection of Sangya , the first wife of Lord Surya.

When Shani was still in the womb of Devi Chhaya , she dedicated all her time worshipping Lord Shiva. Her devotion was so soulful that she failed to properly take care of his health and this had a direct impact on her new born, who was very dark and grossly frail and weak.

Seeing his son, who was very much unlike his father's self-radiant and strength, Lord Surya refused to accept him as his son. Going further, Lord Surya abandoned both his son and his wife. Both mother and the son faced humiliation and suffered great pain.

As the time passed by, Lord Shani decided to revenge the embarrassment and disgrace that his father granted them. And as a quest, he started performing strict penance to please Lord Shiva. And as a result Lord Shiva granted him boon and he was able to earn power and sight equivalent to his father.

Not only that, he also earned the authority to serve punishments and awards as the consequences of the karmas . Lord Shiva designated him as the Magistrate.

Points of interest: Lord Shani is the brother of Yama , the lord of Dharma and death. Devi Yamuna is the sister of Lord Shani.

किसी की जन्मपत्री में शनि आयु, पूर्ण आयु, बंधन, अनुशासन, पितर, पूर्वज, बड़े-बुजुर्ग, वैराग्य, बुद्धिमत्ता एवं यथार्थ ज्ञान के कारक होते हैं। वह छिपे धन, धैर्य, मानसिक व नैतिक साहस के परिचायक है। शनिदेव कलयुग के महाराज हैं वह अत्यंत उग्र, क्रोधी, प्रचंड और रूढ़िवादी ग्रह सूर्य के पुत्र हैं।

उनकी मां हैं छाया देवी, जो कि सूर्य देव की पहली पत्नी संज्ञा देवी का ही प्रतिबिंब हैं। जिस काल में शनिदेव अपनी मां के गर्भ में थे उस काल में उनकी मां छाया भगवान शिव की तपस्या में इस प्रकार लीन हुई कि उन्हें ना तो अपनी सुध रही और ना ही अपने गर्भ में पल रहे अपने शिशु की। वह अपनी तपस्या में इतनी मग्न थी कि गर्भस्थ शिशु की देखभाल ना कर पाईं, और जिसके कारण शनिदेव बहुत ही अधिक नाजुक अवस्था में, कमजोर व काले वर्ण सहित पैदा हुए।

अपने पुत्र को देखकर, जोकि उनके जैसा आभायुक्त एवं शक्तिशाली नहीं था, सूर्य देव ने शनिदेव वो छाया दोनों का ही परित्याग कर दिया। दोनों को तिरस्कार व वेदना सहनी पड़ी।

जैसे जैसे समय बीतता गया शनि देव सूर्य देव से अपने व अपनी मां के अपमान का बदला लेने को आतुर होने लगे। और इसी प्रयोजन से उन्होंने भगवान शिव की गहन तपस्या की। तपस्या से प्रसन्न होकर भगवान शिव ने उन्हें उनके पिता के ही समान शक्तियां व दृष्टि प्रदान कर दी। इतना ही नहीं भगवान शिव ने उन्हें कर्मफल दाता भी नियुक्त कर दिया जो सभी के कर्मों के अनुसार ही भोग एवं भुगतान प्रस्तुत करते हैं। भगवान शिव ने उन्हें न्यायाधीश नियुक्त कर दिया।

यमराज अर्थात धर्म एवं मृत्यु के देवता शनि देव के भाई हैं और यमुना देवी उनकी बहन हैं।

श्री शनिदेव जी महाराज कलियुग के देव हैं। वह कर्मठ वर्ग के प्राणियों के कारक ग्रह हैं।
