MENSTRUATION

Chapter 1 - The Prey To Man's Hollow Ambition

I wonder sometime, "why most of the words in English language are as they are. To me English is a very meaningful and scientific language akin to Sanskrit language. The English word itself, most of the time, reveals its actual meaning.

As it looks true in the case of word ‘MENSTRUATION' - See !

Menstruation = Mens' + true + ation = Mens' Truth

- ‘ation' is the ‘noun suffix' which is used to tell the process of the actual nature of the word it is suffixed with.

Like in the word ‘defination', word ‘ation' points towards the process of the actual nature of word ‘defining'.

In the same way, in the word ‘trueation', word ‘ation' points towards the process of mentioning the nature of the word ‘truth'.

So Menstruation = Mens' Truth

In a way, Menstruation is the process that helps understanding the true nature of men.

But the core topic is

If Menstruation Make Woman Unclean" or "Inauspicious" ?

There have been so many wrong notions in our society. Being Male-dominant, almost every religion and society has exploited women since foretime. Hindu society also has discriminated against females. Sati rite was one such example of exploitation. I at least praise to the British government who restricted the practice of Sati before independence?

It was the result of the tireless efforts of Rajaram Mohan Rai, that in 1829, the governor of Bengal declared the Sati rite illegal in Bengal. The Nepal government prevented rites of Sati from its territory in the 1920. And in 1988, under Sati Prevention Act of Indian Government, the rites of Sati was kept in the category of crime. Then only the Indian woman got rid of tartarean life.

There is one more act of superstition which has been spreaded badly in our society. And that is, "Menstruation of Women", which has been shaped by a male-dominated society as a Curse. This curse spread among us like an incurable disease and has made the woman a contaminated being. Menstruation in India is known as ‘MasikDharm' or 'Rajswala'.

Manusmriti 'is a Hindu scripture in which women have been declared unholy during menstrual period. In this period, the woman has been denied worship and prayer. Women are not allowed to enter the temple during the days of menstruation. And in some places she can not make food in her house, and at some places she is forced to live a lonely and dernful life away from the entire village and society.

Some great scholars and intellectuals have justified these practices. According to them, this was done so that women could relax more in the days of menstruation. If seen from one sight it may seem reasonable. And in general it may be appropriate for the initial two days of such menstrual period when the power depreciation is high. But if a woman is not a victim of malnutrition and if she does not have diseases like hypothyroidism, hypertenstion etc., then even after the first day she does not experience the decline of power. At the same time some balanced and healthy women do not experience any weakness at all.

And if seen in today's context, many painkiller medicines are available today that can stimulate the pain, then where remains the palce for these orthodox practices. But unfortunately the illicit rite is in practice.

This is the Hindu religion, which has beautified the woman as the goddess of power in the scriptures, in the temples and in its worship. How can this religion cherish these types of prejudices, which thus abuses and maltreat women in indescribable manners.

Whether we believe it or not, there has to be some basis for this illicit rite. Four thousand to five thousand years ago, in the 'Vedic period', the honour that the woman received has now remained as a sham wrapped in the lap of superstitions . For the mere outward show offs in the men's society, the woman is treated as a piece of honour. Only to nurture superstitions, the goddess form of woman is decorated in temples by giving shape of the idols. But the story is completely contrarious on the real surface.

At present, most men do not take women as a motherly face. Most men in today's world, instead of seeing a mother or daughter in every woman, see them as a mean to enjoy for physical satisfaction.

There are two words in Sanskrit, language, ‘Ashudh' and ‘Ashubh'. ‘Ashudh' means unclean or the one who is not cleaned properly. ‘Ashubh' means inauspicious.

And the essence of this article is that most worldly religions have mixed up these two different words in the context of menstruation. To trap man kind into the hell of superstitions, the word ‘Ashudh' has been hypothetically interchanged with the word ‘Ashubh'. This malpractice of interchanging the words made an unclean woman inauspicious.

In simple language, common ideologies about mensuration are inappropriate. And these unfair thoughts are in fact, impure and immature fantasies. These are basically baseless concepts of stoned and unconscious mind, which believes that "unclean" and "inauspicious" mean the same. However, it is not like that.

Often, many religions use to use these words by swapping in general terms, but following religious beliefs, when they study and assimilate the sayings of the scriptures, they cleverly avoid such swapping. At least according to Hindu religion - ‘ashudh' or "unclean" in a religious sense, is not necessarily ‘ashubh' or "inauspicious".

"Uncleanliness" or ‘ashudhta' implies that the physical body is contaminated for some reason, which can be purified by taking bath. And "inauspiciousness" or 'ashudhta' is semblance, i.e. this is a mental state that is produced by some sinful action, like when a Brahmin makes a physical connection with some outcaste woman, he is declared as inauspicious or ‘ashubh'. In the same way when a woman betrays her husband, she receives the tag of an inauspicious woman. And inauspiciousness can not be turned to auspiciousness by mere act of bathe etc., but it has to repent and severe atonement for its salvation. And this may take the time of multiple lives.

It does not seem appropriate to me that a religion can direct the society to treat woman as "inauspicious", especially in the period of her ‘root femininity'. At least Vedic Dharma, which is given the title of Primitive Religion, can not give such direction. I don't agree that the scholars of Vedic period, who prescribed woman as Goddess can commit such a mistake.

The period of menstruation is related to the physical and mental conditioning, in which the woman passes through 'purification process', in which she experiences its original nature, the original-state of feminine energy. And it does not seem to be worth considering, that the great scholars and sages of ancient times, who laid the foundations of Vedic religion, can see any process of Nature in terms of "inauspiciousness".

It appears that it was a conspiracy of some ignorant, uneducated and greedy ‘pundits' that the woman has been suffering from this misconception for a long time.
